When it comes to protecting your home, your roof is the first line of defense—and at Ace Roofing and Construction, we treat it with the care it deserves. Whether you're replacing an old roof or addressing storm damage, we’ve developed a detailed installation process to ensure the highest quality results with minimal disruption to your Toledo, Ohio area home and property.

Here’s how we do it—step-by-step from inspection to cleanup:
Step 1: Roof Inspection
Every project begins with a comprehensive roof inspection. Our trained professionals assess your current roof for wear, storm damage, and other signs of failure. While we examine as much of the decking and structure as possible, some damaged or rotten wood may not be visible until the old roof is removed—this is a normal part of the process, and we’ll be ready to replace any compromised decking to ensure a solid foundation for your new roof.
Step 2: Detailed Estimate & Sales Presentation
Next, we provide you with a clear and detailed estimate, along with a full sales presentation that walks you through exactly how your new roofing system will be installed. You'll see the materials we use, the methods we follow, and—most importantly—what sets us apart from other contractors in the Toledo area.
Education is the key element that ensures you get a QUALITY roof installation and not one that will be in the dumpster in 2-3 years. If you are only comparing prices, it's likely the company you choose will not install your roof properly, and the warranty will be void from day 1.
While many roofers cut corners using the cheapest materials they can find, we use premium products that far exceed manufacturer requirements, giving you peace of mind with a 50-year warranty that covers both materials AND labor. Most contractors only offer a material warranty—that speaks volumes about the difference in quality.
Step 3: Scheduling & Preparation
Once you're ready to move forward, we schedule the job at a convenient time. When installation day arrives, our crew shows up early and gets to work protecting your home and property. We use plywood sheets and heavy-duty tarps to shield your home, its landscaping, patios, and any items around your home. If anything needs to be moved for protection, we’ll handle it—we care for your home like it’s our own.
Step 4: Roof Removal
We carefully remove all existing roofing materials, placing them directly into a dumpster to be hauled away. During this process, a magnetic roller is run across your property to collect any nails that may fall off the shingles. Keeping your yard clean and safe is just as important to us as installing your new roof properly.
Step 5: Roof Deck Inspection & Repairs
With the old roof gone, we inspect your roof deck thoroughly. We remove any remaining nails or staples, resecure any loose wood panels, and replace any rotted or weakened wood. These repairs are essential—not just for your warranty—but to make sure your shingles can be securely fastened for long-term performance.
Step 6: New Roof Installation
Here’s where the magic happens. We start with premium underlayments to create a waterproof barrier, followed by a large-profile drip edge—much wider than what most contractors use. This protects the edge of your decking and helps maintain the correct pitch all the way to your gutters. Another important material we install in homes with valleys is a thick membrane that actually seals around nails, unlike the cheap ice guard that other contractors use. Icegaurd is code, but during our sales presentation, we will show you the difference between what we use and code; you can be the judge from there.
Next, we install your shingles with proper nailing patterns. When we install your roof, your shingles actually have two rows of nails through them, one in the center through the SureNail strip and another up higher from the next row of shingles. This method provides superior wind resistance. With our nailing pattern, nails are also kept away from vulnerable seam areas where two shingles meet side-by-side, significantly reducing the risk of leaks. We often see roofs fail in just a few years due to improper nailing by other contractors—even some of the biggest names in Toledo who rely on sub-crews.
At walls, chimneys, and skylights, we use oversized metal flashing—never cheap alternatives or smeared-on tar. Our flashing is then counter-flashed and sealed properly (the only place we ever use sealant). We also replace all soil stack boots to eliminate the risk of leaks through worn-out rubber seals.
For ventilation, we recommend our custom box vents with double baffles, which maximize airflow and prevent snow intrusion. We actually worked with the manufacturer years ago to develop the vents we use! Ridge vents, though popular, are often installed incorrectly and can lead to major roofing issues like shingle curling and premature failure.
Step 7: Final Inspection
Once your new roof is in place, we conduct a meticulous final inspection. Our crew checks every detail and ensures everything is done right—from clean seams and flashing to securely fastened shingles. We also make sure all debris is collected and your property is restored to its original condition.
Step 8: Thorough Cleanup
We don’t leave until your yard looks the way it did before we arrived. All materials are loaded into a dumpster, and we run the magnet roller again across your property to pick up any remaining nails or debris. Your safety—and your satisfaction—are our top priorities.
Step 9: Customer Walkthrough & Warranty
Before we wrap up, we will walk you through the finished project and answer any questions you may have. You’ll receive documentation for your records and your 50-year material and labor warranty, which is a true testament to the quality of our work.
